WHAT ARE POWER RESISTOR TYPE ALW?

Power resistors are designed to smooth peaks within electronic circuits. Due to the highly compacted construction the resistors have a good thermal conductivity. The heat generated within the resistor is easily conducted to the outer sheath and also in case of restricted space a maximum discharge of energy is reached.

ADVANTAGES OF POWER RESISTOR TYPE ALW:

The core design feature is the highly compacted construction with a flat rectangular aluminium profile (various sizes like ALW 40, 70, 80, 90), which provides several benefits:

• Excellent thermal performance and heat dissipation: Heat generated in the resistance wire conducts efficiently to the outer aluminium sheath. This enables high power handling and energy discharge even in restricted spaces, with higher power capacity than uncompacted resistors.

• High thermal capacity: Supports absorption of power peaks and short-term high-energy pulses (e.g., braking energy). Thermal capacity examples include ~0.21–0.43 kJ/K depending on size/length.

• High durability and robustness: Built for demanding industrial use with strong mechanical strength.

• 100% vibration resistance: Ideal for environments with shock/vibration (e.g., machinery, vehicles, elevators).

• Compact and space-efficient flat design: Easy to integrate where a low-profile shape is needed; multiple modules can be combined (series/parallel) to scale power.

• Good electrical safety and insulation: High dielectric strength (up to 4000 V), insulation resistance ≥10 MΩ, options for protection class IP20/IP54 (or higher with connection box), and UL/CE approvals available.

• Easy mounting and installation: Direct screw fixing (e.g., M5), PTFE-insulated leads or connection boxes.

• Optional safety features: Intrinsically safe versions and patented internal thermal fuse (bimetal protector) for thermal overload protection.

• Versatile operation: Voltage up to 800 V, resistance range typically 1–500/1000 Ω, max surface temp ~250°C, suitable for pulsed loads (with derating for continuous or longer cycles).
